The rainy season or monsoons bring with it a lot of happiness and memories and at the same time invite illnesses. Therefore, we should be extra cautious and protective during this season especially regarding kid’s health. Here are some tips to protect children in the rainy season.

Rain Dance

Rain dance! So, you might have enjoyed the rain dance when you were young! Why shouldn’t you allow the kid? Yes, you can allow your kids having rain dance only when the rain is not too heavy. However, make sure, that your child gets bathed with hot water immediately after drenching in the rain and fed with a hot food like a cup of hot milk, or soup.

Vaccination

Ask for your doctor’s advice on getting your kids vaccinated against common illnesses.

Wash Hands

  • Wash their hands frequently, six-eight times a day. Proper hand washing is one of the easiest and effective means of stopping the spread of infection via faces, body fluids, and inanimate objects.
  • It is particularly important for children, as these age groups are the most vulnerable to infections from unwashed hands.

Cleanliness

  • The floor of house has to be cleaned at least twice during the rainy season. Add some floor cleaners with antiseptic liquid to water while cleaning the floor. Ensure that the kid wears clean clothes, socks and footwear. Wash the child’s socks daily. Wash and dry the kids’ toys at least once a week
  • Diaper Care: Frequent urination is a common occurrence in the monsoon. If you have young children diapers have to be changed frequently to avoid wetness and fungal infections.

Empty or cover water containers

  • Stagnant water is the home of dengue and malaria-causing mosquitoes. Make sure that water coolers and other such places are emptied or covered to lower the chances of mosquito breeding, which as a result can affect your kids and other family members.

Keeping Warm and Dry

  • It is extremely necessary to prevent children from keeping wet for long time and ensuring that they are dry at all times to protect them. Wetness and dampness increase the chances of infections. Hence, it is pertinent that we encourage children to carry raincoats and umbrellas when stepping out. Even if they do get wet, ensure that they clean themselves and wash their feet and hands carefully and be sure that they change into dry and fresh clothes immediately upon returning home upon getting wet. This can help ensure they don’t end up catching a cold.

Feed right

  • Feed them home-cooked food as far as possible.
  • Include Tulsi leaves, ginger, mint, seasonal fresh fruits (jamuns, cherries, and plums are readily available), dry fruits, turmeric in the daily diet.
  • Avoid outside food mainly raw vegetables, fruits, fermented and fried foods.

Boil Water

  • One of the most common reasons for falling sick during the monsoons is a water-borne disease. Using boiled, purified or filtered water can enable people to stay healthy. While travelling use mineral water only.
  • Don’t forget about hydrating your kids. Kids should drink sufficient liquids even during the rainy season.

Don’t Buy Any Pre-Cut Fruits Or Vegetables

  • Pre –cut foods from street vendors can attract flies and other insects that can cause infections and spread diseases. Look for fresh fruits and vegetables and cook them perfectly to make them safe for consumption

Feed Immunity Boosting Foods

  • Eating foods like ginger, yogurt, citrus fruits, bell peppers, broccoli, spinach etc. can help improve your kids’ immunity against diseases and make them more capable of resisting and fighting diseases

So parents just follow these simple tips and protect your child’s health this monsoon without holding them back from enjoying the rain and all the other bliss this season has to offer.
